A VID file is a video file wrapped in the VID container format, which is a generic video format. The video data stored in the VID format could actually be an MP4 video and many other possible videos.

The VID file format has been around for many years. But seldom programs use this format now, and there are only a few media players can directly open this kind of file. The known software that can open a .vid file is VLC Media Player and Windows Media Player. You can drop the .vid file directly into the two media players or right-click on the .vid file > Open with... > select either program to open it (make sure you have at least one of the players preinstalled on your device).
